Migration Health Nurse

JOB DESCRIPTION

Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission (CoM) and the direct supervision of Head of Migration & Health Division (MHD) the successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities in relation to the Migration Health Assessment for Resettlement under IOM programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provide general assistance with the daily nursing activities to fulfil the technical requirements in the areas of: 
  • Medical examinations, Such as checking vital signs, weight, height, visual acuity; and Blood, urine or sputum collection as required.
  • Support in TB management; Directly Observed Treatment Short Course (DOTS);
  • Support Infection prevention and control mechanisms;
  • Support pre-departure procedures and medical movements;
  • Support documentation, certification and information transmission;
  • Transport of samples to the laboratory in a proper and safe manner;
  • Liaise with the laboratory, receive results and reports in a timely manner; and,
  • Other technical areas as may be required

2. Provide support and general information to the migrants and/or refugees in relation to: 

  • The migration health assessment, specially focusing on Chest Xray, Immunization and sputum testing for those requiring it; and,
  • Treatments and referrals to public and private health facilities.

3. Support the medical team members with proper identification and follow up by:

  • Comprehensive history taking;
  • Accurate and thorough Biodata collection;
  • Ensuring ID verification for each step of the health assessment process; and,
  • Keeping a register of applicants who undergo health investigations and testing.

4.Follow the Health Programmes’ check lists and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and maintain standard universal precautions within IOM clinics.

5. Assist in medical emergency management as well as with chronic case management and related procedures.  Arrange for specialist consultations and ensure receipt of specialist reports as assigned.

6. Support proper and accurate record keeping of applicants throughout the migration health assessment process, including uploading medical reports on the required databases.

7. Perform medical escort duties when required to ensure migrants receive continued care throughout all phases of migration (before departure, during the journey and at the final destination).

8. Assist the team with checking medical invoices.

9. Prepare list of medical drugs and supplies for ordering as requested by the Migration Health Physician or Migration Health Nurse, assist in inventory taking, confirm and receive ordered drugs and supplies; all in close coordination with the administrative and finance teams. 

10. Perform other duties as may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

  • Certificate or High School diploma from an accredited academic institution in Nursing. 
  • A valid license to practice nursing in the country of duty station.

EXPERIENCE

  • For Bachelor’s Degree holder a minimum of two (2) years of relevant clinical experience and for Diploma holder a minimum of five (5) years of relevant clinical experience.
  • Training or working experience in the areas of Tuberculosis management, mass immunizations, communicable diseases, laboratory testing or public health is an advantage; and,

Experience in working with people from different cultural background is an advantage.

  • Training or working experience in the areas of Tuberculosis management, mass immunizations, 
  • Knowledge of and experience in clinical nursing.
  • Knowledge of principles of preventive care and disease control.
  • Computer literacy required: MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Access)

MHPSS Assistant

JOB DESCRIPTION

Under the overall supervision of the Head of MHD, and the direct supervision of the Senior Project Associate Migration and Health the successful candidate will be responsible to support the, implementation, and reporting of Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) activities in different sites in Tunisia, while liaising with health and MHPSS teams, and following-up  the MHPSS case management system for referrals.The MHPSS associate will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities: 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist the Senior Project Associate Migration and Health in the implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting (internally and externally) of MHPSS activities in different sites. 
  • Support the organization of the routine MHPSS needs assessments and program reviews to inform interventions, ensure successful implementation and donor compliance.
  • Support the internal coordination and follow-up the work of the MHPSS team on different sites.
  • Support the close coordination between MHD and other units related to MHPSS activities, especially protection. 
  • Periodically support the review of the M&E systems for MHPSS programming, including supporting the development of M&E tools, reporting mechanisms, and analysis of program data and impact. 
  • Support in MHPSS programming to identify gaps and opportunities, and to develop activities that effectively meet beneficiaries needs, the changing context, and other factors. 
  • Provide operational support to build the accountability system for the MHPSS program, including the incorporation of feedback mechanisms for beneficiaries and staff.
  • Support in building MHPSS capacities of the staff, by organizing capacity building activities in line with the mission’s strategic objectives.
  • Compile beneficiaries’ MHPSS assessment, maintain and update the beneficiary database while adhering to IOM data protection standards, and ensure that all assistance is recorded in the IOM data collection system (MIMOSA), the IOM health team tracking system, and donor matrices.
  • Support the organization and logistics for awareness and promotion sessions on mental health and psychosocial well-being for beneficiaries in collaboration with regional and local partners and government stakeholders. 
  • Support the organization and logistics  of training and awareness sessions on the mental health and psychosocial well-being of migrants for IOM partners in Tunisia.
  • Undertake duty travel as required.
  • Perform such any other relevant duties that may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Psychology or a related field from an accredited academic institution with three years of relevant professional experience; or
  • High School diploma with five years of relevant professional experience

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in humanitarian work, international development, public health, and MHPSS, including in emergencies and in conflict settings.
  • Experience in delivering trainings on MHPSS-related topics is required (including capacity building of high-level government counterparts and frontliners).
  • Knowledge of and experience of using IASC MHPSS and GBV/CP guidelines and best practices as part of their previous work experience.

SKILLS

  • Good drafting skills and clear oral communication.
  • Strong knowledge of computer applications, especially MS Word, Excel, Outlook and Access.
  • Knowledge of MHPSS Case Management and Integration of mental health into Primary Health Care approaches is an advantage.
  • Experience in working in public health system is a plus. 
  • Experience with international organization and UN agencies is a plus. 
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work within different cultural environments.
  • Ability to work within a team structure or in isolation, flexible, and can cope with stressful workloads and working with limited resources.
  • Ability to travel on short notice to project sites among others.
